Just posted three new stories made in a workshop hosted by the Hospital Employees Union. The theme was “Stories of Origin, Stories of Arrival”. Participants had little computer experience so it was exciting to see the stories take shape in a digital form. Looking forward to working with the union again soon, I hope!

“Stories of Arrival, Stories of Origin” Workshop – March 2012

Just finished fine tuning the stories from our recent Hospital Workers Union Workshop. In March, the Union generously hosted a workshop for some of their most active members, with the theme “Stories of Arrival, Stories of Origin”. Many of the students were not familiar, nor particularly friendly, with computers, so we used a basic software (MovieMaker) and worked hard to help them understand and enjoy the process. The stories that emerged were beautiful, touching, and inspiring. I’ll be posting a few here soon, so stay tuned…

Current Projects

We work with a wide range of organizations in the Lower Mainland. Current clients include JASMINE (services for survivors of domestic abuse) and Carnegie Community Centre’s Downtown Eastside Small Arts Grant Project.

Recently completed projects include an organizational story created for New Westminster Ethnocultural Victim Services.

Upcoming Workshops

In Golden Thread Stories workshops, students will produce a one to three minute digital story, using their own words and images. Storytellers will explore the creative process of story development, record their own first-person narratives, and learn how to combine images, voice and soundtrack into a completed digital story. All our workshops are designed for 8 to 12 students and include two facilitators to guide the process.

Long Story Short Workshops

Two dedicated facilitators
Pre-workshop package and additional materials to support your learning
Meeting and recording space with a computer for each student
Screening time to show off your story!
One DVD copy of your completed story for viewing on your home computer or TV

Many workshops will be held on a particular theme or issue. If you have an idea you’d like to suggest, please contact us…we’dlove to hear it!

Standard 3-day workshop (24 hours)

Students will complete a three-minute digital story. Various software may be used, depending on the workshop, including Final Cut (Mac), iMovie (Mac), Adobe Premiere (PC or Mac), PhotoStory (PC), or others.

Fee: $300

Standard 2-day workshop (16 hours)

Students will complete a two-minute digital story. Compared to the three-day workshop, story development time is slightly shorter and software and tutorials are simplified.

Fee: $225

Standard 1-day workshop (8 hours)

Students will complete a one-minute digital story. Students must bring a completed story and development time will be limited to a brief editing process. Tutorials will be provided on basic editing software.

Some one-day workshops will focus on story development alone, with only audio stories recorded by the end of the session. Additional visual editing can be done in a later workshop or by facilitators for an additional fee.

Fee: $150
